Ella Fitzgerald
Ella Sings Gershwin
DOL 1260FC – import LP on limited RED colored vinyl

A dozen George & Ira Gershwin songs accompanied only by pianist Ellis Larkins, offering a rare minimalist look at the “First Lady of Song”. Her warm timbre and impeccable diction illuminate the melodies of “Someone to Watch Over Me”, and “But Not For Me”. These quiet sessions were a forerunner to her later, more famous songbook series for Verve – but in some ways, even more intimate and affecting.

Tracks:
Someone to Watch Over Me
My One and Only Love (What Am I Gonna Do)
But Not For Me
Looking For a Boy
Nice Work if You Can Get It
Oh, Lady Be Good (w/ Orchestra directed by Bob Haggart)
I’ve Got a Crush On You
How Long Has This Been Going On
Maybe
Soon
I’m Just a Lucky So and So (w/ Billy Kyle and His Trio)
I Didn’t Mean a Word I Said (w/ Billy Kyle and His Trio)
