The Modern Sound of Betty Carter
DOL 1250FC – import LP on limited BLUE colored vinyl
Lillie Mae Jones, aka Betty Carter (1929-1998) isn’t the most famous jazz singer, but true connoisseurs worship her. Produced and arranged by Richard Wess, these twelve classics are illuminated by her pure voice and winding groove. A high priestess of scat and revered improviser, she wasn’t a diva – though she was recommended by Miles Davis to Ray Charles, with whom she would later find mainstream success.
