Fania All Stars
The Best of Fania All-Stars
Fania / Sony 85871-re-issue CD

The Fania All-Stars, a who’s who of salsa’s greatest stars, attempted a daring gambit with the four albums recorded for Columbia from 1976-1977, nothing less that the marriage of salsa with contemporary pop styles, particularly fusion jazz and dance music R&B. The ambition of this vision resulted in some incredible music and proved to be prophetic given Latino pops more recent successes. It was an idea that was 20 years ahead of its time. Stripped down to its high points on this anthology this music stands as remarkably important historical document.
