Movin’ On Up a Little Higher
Shanachie – special release LP for Record Store Day 25
“The Greatest Gospel Singer of all time… a defining symbol of the music’s transcendent power”-Allmusic. Moving On Up A Little Higher explores Mahalia’s roots as she performs hymns popular at the time her childhood and it reunites her with mentor, Thomas A. Dorsey. These performances date from 1946 to 1957 when Mahalia’s voice was at it’s remarkable peak, and include many never before released masterpieces. Together these performances offer a much greater sense of her musical scope and identity.
