Come to my Garden
Not Now 254 – reissue import

Come to My Garden was Riperton’s debut album, hoton the heels of her tenure in Rotary Connection, producer, arranger, conductor, songwriter Charles Stepney (and 70shouse producer for Chess / Argo Records) recordedthis album originally for the GRT label with lush orchestrationand a jazzy soft-pop feel reminiscent of contemporary Roberta Flack. The initial release was unsuccessful, butre-issued in 1973, partially to cash in on her Capitol Records Smash,Perfect Angel by Janus Records. While different from thatalbum, it is now considered to be a classic, and containsmany enduring, if woefully unknown classics. Musiciansperforming on the album include Ramsey Lewis, Phil Upchurch, Maurice White (Earth, Wind & Fire). Minnie Riperton is arguably one of the most overlooked soul voices of this era.

An unforgettable piece of seductive chamber-soul history, re-issued on ecomix vinyl.
