Chicago’s Avant Today
Delmark 911
Chicago has been a hotbed of avant garde jazz since the mid 60s, reflected in the earliest Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) recordings. Delmark was the first label to document this movement and today, almost 40 years later, the fire is still burning. With Ernest Dawkins, Chicago Underground, Kahil ElZabar, Malachi Thompson, Jeff Parker, Ken Vandermark and others. This is a sampling of music offered by Delmark on other full releases.
Tracks are;
Stranger – Ernest Dawkins’ New Horizons Ensemble
Hyperspace – NRG Ensemble
Ostinato – Robert Mazurek & Chicago Underground
Trane in Mind – Kahil El’zabar’s Ritual Trio
An Elevated Cry – Malachi Thompson
Holiday for a Despot – Jeff Parker
Top Shelf – Ken Vandermark’s Sound in Action Trio
