The Violinaires
Groovin’ with Jesus
Checker 10067
Along with the slinky funk of the title track (worthy of early Funkadalic or The Meters), this 1971 album by the Detroit gospel quintet, features another 8 tracks produced by the great Gene Barge for Checker Records in Chicago. Their cover of the Buddy Miles track “We Got to Live Together” is especially funky. A number of vocalists made their way through the group over the years including Wilson Pickett. Lead on this album is Robert Blair, who is definitely among the great gospel shouters.
